This lesson is an art class, and the principal teaches art.
The principal's surname is Qiao, about 52 or 53 years old, with a pair of whiskers on his face, always smiling and can't see his eyes, he's a kind person. He has been in this ordinary rural primary school for almost a lifetime, and has been the principal for nearly ten years. All the big and small children in the school like him. Principal Qiao is old but still insists on teaching classes, and all the art classes in the whole school are taught by him.
Principal Qiao was one of the earliest graduates of a normal school, and his Chinese painting skills were renowned. In elementary school art classes, there's no need to teach anything too profound, just using pencils to draw simple things like little dogs, cats, birds, flowers, grass, and trees. If a student takes out watercolor paints and colors in what they've drawn, it's already quite impressive.
The children of Class One (2) cheered and clapped when they saw Principal Qiao use colored chalk to outline the shape of an apple on the blackboard with just three or two strokes, it was so vivid.
Then Principal Qiao let the children draw by themselves and walked around in circles in the classroom.
The children all liked to take art class, for a time, even the most mischievous children sat down honestly and seriously started painting. However, some drew gourds, others drew duck eggs, and the most ridiculous thing was that Zhou Zhihai from the back desk painted an apple that was square in shape.
Wang Jingjing took a glance and burst out laughing, beckoning Zhou Xiaoyun to look back as well. Zhou Xiaoyun followed her gaze and suddenly let out a "heh" of laughter. This laugh caught the attention of several classmates nearby, who all craned their necks to take a look. Even Feng Tiezhu, sitting in another group, got up from his seat and ran over to see what was going on.
Feng Tiezhu's father was the famous village doctor, Feng, and their family was relatively well-off. He wore a brand new outfit and was even fatter than Fat Niu. He and Zhou Zhihai became fast friends, to the point where they would fight with each other in an instant, leaving people to sigh at the special bond between boys.
Feng Tiezhu's sarcastic remarks made Zhou Zhihai somewhat embarrassed and they started arguing, almost to the point of physical confrontation.
The commotion grew louder and louder, but Principal Qiao still had a smiling face as he came over to stop the impending fight, telling Feng Tiejun to return to his seat and the other students to withdraw their heads.
Feng Tiezhu didn't show any sign of being reprimanded and bounced back to his position with a spring in his step.
Principal Qiao carefully guided Zhou Zhihai to draw a round apple again, and Zhou Zhihai was delighted to see that his drawing looked like an apple.
Principal Qiao walked past Zhou Xiaoyun's position and suddenly stopped, exclaiming "Ah!" as he picked up Zhou Xiaoyun's painting to take a look.
All that can be seen is a large watermelon plate drawn on the rectangular white paper of an art book, with a pile of apples drawn on the plate, and next to it is an apple that has been bitten into, with clear tooth marks visible, lifelike.
Principal Qiao was full of praise, nodding his head and repeatedly complimenting the painting. He called Zhou Xiaoyun over to ask her how she came up with this idea for the painting.
Zhou Xiaoyun didn't dare say she had painted apples this well in her past life, so she modestly said a few words.
Principal Qiao looked at this delicate little girl and felt very familiar, thinking for a while before remembering that she often saw her moving exercise books to the office, seemingly called Zhou something...
"Principal Qiao, I'm Zhou Xiaoyun. My name is on the cover." Zhou Xiaoyun guessed that Principal Qiao might not remember his own name, so he flipped over the cover of his homework notebook to show him.
Principal Qiao was surprised by the cleverness of this little girl and couldn't help but look at her in a new light. In front of all the classmates, he praised Zhou Xiaoyun for two sentences, and then showed her drawing of an apple to other children, which brought a burst of "wow" admiring voices.
However, after several months of studying together, the classmates in the class have become accustomed to Zhou Xiaoyun's excellence and outstanding performance. After seeing her painting, most people think "how can she paint so well" instead of being jealous.
Zhou Xiaoyun taking her homework to the office is a common occurrence, she's the teacher's darling, the outstanding one among students, has good relationships with others, and is completely different from her introverted, quiet, and ordinary self in her previous life. Although Zhou Xiaoyun doesn't show off superficially everywhere, she can't help but feel a little proud of herself.
At the end of the semester's final exam, Zhou Xiaoyun scored a perfect 100 in both Chinese and math without any surprise.
Wang Jingjing's grades are not bad either, after all, she is with Zhou Xiaoyun every day and can't help but study hard, with over 90 points in Chinese and math, and also one of the top students in the class. Wu Mei's math scores are not very good, only over 80 points, and her Chinese scores are just barely passing 90 points. Zhou Zhihai is much worse, barely passing both subjects, and can be called a difficult brother with Feng Tiezhu. Pang Niang is slightly better than Xiao Budian, with both subjects scoring over 80 points.
Children who were laughing and joking all the time finally looked like students after receiving their test papers, asking each other about their scores. Those who did well, like Wang Jingjing, beamed with pride, while those who didn't do well, like Zhou Zhihai and Feng Tiejun, looked crestfallen, like wilted eggplants.
Zhou Zhihai, who was ridiculed by Wang Jingjing, said with discontent: "What are you proud of? Zhou Xiaoyun scored double hundreds and is much better than you. She didn't show off like you do everywhere."
Wang Jingjing was somewhat unable to get down from the stage after being told by Zhou Zhihai, and he said it was a big truth. Zhou Xiaoyun had taken away her test paper early and didn't tell anyone how much she scored, and only when Teacher Fang praised Zhou Xiaoyun for coming in first on the podium did everyone find out.
She blushed with anger: "Anyway, I scored better than you, unlike you who just got over 60 points and almost failed, aren't you ashamed?"
Zhou Zhihai and Wang Jingjing started arguing, Zhou Xiaoyun hastily stopped them: "You two stop arguing quickly, Teacher Fang is coming, if you continue to argue you will be scolded by the teacher."
The two of them sulkily shut their mouths and glared at each other.
