Chapter 2 Steamed Fish

The little black fish heard the sound and turned his head around, saw Xia Zhi after that, then stopped.

"Sixteen?" Little Black Fish raised an eyebrow, seemingly surprised.

"Uncle." Xia Zhi called out again in a sweet voice, warmly inviting, "Uncle, come to my house for dinner. If you go back like this, my grandfather will scold you again."

The little black fish looked down at its shiny self, then lifted its head and thought for a moment before nodding: "Okay."

As they spoke, the little black fish carried the fish up the gentle slope. Xia Zhi politely invited the little black fish into the house, and the little black fish didn't hesitate, swaggering into the courtyard with a big stride.

Summer solstice hiding above the bamboo door, happily following behind little black fish.

"Here." Walking up to the front of the house and the well, Xiao Hei stopped, handing over the fish in his hand to Xia Zhi.

Xia Zhi took a wooden basin and scooped up the fish.

"Where are your brother and sister?" Little Black Fish asked, looking around and speaking in a grown-up manner.

"Big brother went out and said he wouldn't be back until noon. Little brother doesn't know where he went." Xia Zhi replied simply.

"Oh." Little Black Fish nodded and didn't ask any more questions, then sat down on the bench.

Xia Zhi busied herself holding him down. Xiao Hei Yu had obviously gone to roll around in the deep water, and his back and buttocks were covered with a layer of fine sand. "Old uncle, you still have sand on your body. I'll rinse it off for you, okay?"

  "Are you crazy? Alright then."

By the well, there were three wooden basins of different sizes, all filled with water and warmed by the sun. Little Black Fish picked up a small basin, lifted it above his head, and then poured it down with a splash.

When Xia Zhi came out of the house, Xiao Hei Yu was happily tapping his feet and shaking off the water droplets on his body.

It's really a small black fish, or it can be said that it is a small black dragon.

Xia Zhi took a large towel and helped Xiao Hei wipe his head and back.

After being wiped a few times, the little black fish became impatient, snatched the towel away, and roughly wiped itself. Then it sat on the bench by the well to watch Xia Zhi collect the fish.

Xia Zhi is a good cook. Growing up in an orphanage, she often had to help with chores and developed strong manual skills from a young age. After finishing school and starting work, she shared an apartment with two colleagues and would often cook for herself during her free time.

Xiaozhi was only twelve years old, but she had been helping with household chores since she learned to walk. She could do all the farm work and even more at home. By the time Xiaozhi was ten years old, she could already cook independently for her whole family.

The little black fish was willing to follow her, on the one hand, he was afraid of being scolded by his father when he went back, and on the other hand, he also knew that she could cook.

Summer knocked the big fish unconscious with the back of a knife, then scraped off the scales and cleaned up the belly. The things in the fish belly were not thrown away, washed and put in another large bowl.

One hand busy, Xia Zhi asked the shiny little black fish: "Old uncle, where are your clothes?"

"Let Daqing take it back first."

The little black fish seemed to remember something and got up, passing through the hall to the backyard. Xia Zhi followed into the hall, with his hands constantly moving, while looking outwards.

The little black fish didn't leave the yard, he climbed onto the low wall, and looked out by climbing on the wall of the yard.

A few kids are playing outside.

"Little Five!" Little Black shouted at one of them.

The chubby little boy turned his head and saw the small black fish's face sticking out from behind the wall, and hastily called out a respectful "Uncle".

"Go tell your mom, I'm having lunch with Xia Zhi and won't be back."

Xiao Wu was very obedient and answered with a "yes". He quickly ran into the big gate diagonally across from him.

The little black fish jumped down from the low wall and walked back into the hall, then found a stool to sit on, looking up at Xia Zhi cooking.

Xia Zhi had already deboned the fish, cut it into large chunks, and marinated them with the fish head and seasonings. The fish meat was sliced into thin butterfly-shaped pieces and placed in another large bowl, topped with starch.

"What are you doing at sixteen?" Little Black asked.

"Steamed fish. Old uncle, aren't you a spicy food lover? This is both spicy and delicious."

As he spoke, Xia Zhi reached into the gourd beside him and pulled out two red-skinned eggs. He cracked them open and poured the egg whites into the large bowl containing the fish slices.

At this time, the door curtain rustled and a large green dog sauntered in. The big dog stood up, slightly taller than Little Black Fish, with shiny black-green fur. It had a small basket in its mouth, walked to Little Black Fish's side, wagged its tail, and stuffed the small basket into Little Black Fish's arms.

"Hey, Big Green." Little Black Fish swam up with a smile on his face and patted Big Green Dog's head with his fin.

The big green dog barked twice, rubbed against the little black fish's leg, wagged its tail, and then lay down beside the little black fish, with its tongue hanging out and its head resting on its two thick front paws.

The little black fish took out a bright red bellyband, green shorts and cloth shoes from the basket, as well as an oil paper package.

"Xia Zhi smiled: 'Old uncle, my mother has sent Da Qing to deliver clothes for you, hurry up and put them on.'"

The little black fish didn't rush to put on his clothes, but instead handed the oil paper package to Xia Zhi. "For us to add dishes."

Xia Zhi opened the oil paper package.

Inside the oil paper package were several sheets of dried tofu.

Mr. and Mrs. Xia are both quite particular people.

The little black fish wore a bellyband, trousers and shoes were placed on the back of the big green.

"Uncle, you should wear your coat too." Xia Zhi said with a smile.

The little black fish was somewhat unhappy. He thought for a moment, then put on his pants and shoes, holding the big green dog in his hand, continuing to watch Xia Zhi cook.

The big green (snake) hissed softly.

Xia Zhi had already hung the fish meat on the hook, she took a glance at Xiao Hei and Da Qing, and decisively cracked both egg yolks into the large bowl with fish intestines and stomach, then bent down to place the bowl in front of Da Qing dog.

The big green dog immediately lifted its upper body, wagging its tail so hard that its buttocks almost flew up, but it didn't eat the delicious food put in front of it.

The little black fish's big eyes blinked.

  "Summer solstice, you this..."

"This is for Da Qing." Xia Zhi said bluntly.

"Go ahead and eat." Little Black Fish smiled with curved eyes, patted the head of Big Green Dog, and gave the order.

The big green dog buried his face in the large bowl and started eating with a crunching sound.

  "Uncle, don't mention it outside."

"Of course I won't say." Xia Hei Yu gave Xia Zhi a sideways glance, as if resenting Xia Zhi for suspecting he would be so unscrupulous. Then he asked Xia Zhi again: "Sixteen, how did you get so bold? Aren't you afraid of your mother?"

"My mother doesn't even know how many eggs she laid today." Xia Zhi said indifferently.

"Haha, right, absolutely right! That's it, sixteen!" Little Black Fish stomped his feet and laughed loudly.

Summer solstice washed a large handful of bean sprouts again, then started burning pot, scalding bean sprouts, frying fish slices.

She has traveled to many places on business and tasted local specialties. She has a skill, when she eats a dish she likes, she can recreate it at home after some thought. The luxurious version is also no problem, as long as she has time and doesn't mind the trouble.

A table was placed on the kang, and when Xia Zhi was pouring hot oil into a ceramic basin, Xiao Hei had already sat obediently at the edge of the table.

A nearly three-catty grass carp, along with bean sprouts, filled a white porcelain basin to the brim. Xia Zhi quickly chopped dried tofu and small cucumbers into shreds, mixed them with sauce, and served two bowls of millet rice porridge.

Simple yet flavorful and aromatic, just looking at it makes me want to eat a whole bowl of rice.

The little black fish was about to drool, but didn't move its chopsticks.

"Sixteen, you come up to the table too." Little Black Fish ordered.

"Ah." Xia Zhi happily agreed and sat on the kang with Xiao Hei Yu Er facing each other.

"Uncle, don't despise me for cooking poorly..." Xia Zhi gave a piece of fish to Xiao Hei Yu and asked him to start eating first.

Xiao Hei Yu Er just picked up his chopsticks...

A bowl of fish, including the bean sprouts at the bottom of the bowl, were eaten clean.

Xiao Hei Yu's appetite is quite good. Xia Zhi's appetite is not small either. A 12-year-old girl, and her past life as an adult ate about the same amount.

The little girl has been working hard all year round, so she eats a lot, but she doesn't often get full.

Xia Zhi put away the table. The fish head was not given to Da Qing, because it tasted heavy. She mixed a bowl of rice with lard for Da Qing instead. She also brought a tea cup of water for Xiao Hei Yu, adding white sugar, which made it sweet and silky to drink.

The little black fish can't drink water for the time being. He hugged his swollen belly contentedly and comfortably.

"At sixteen, I feel like you've become a different person."
