An incredibly sharp icicle nearly half my height just struck me perfectly in the center of my chest.Yet, there’s no pain.Since as soon as it touches me, it turns to water in the same manner as before, though far quicker.
*ditiditiditi*
And, of course, this crazy blue fairy now bursts out ughing!Talia immediately rushes to inspect me as I halt and hover in pce.
“Sis, are you okay!?”
“I, um, I believe so. This is precisely what happened earlier, except the ice didn’t touch me before.”
*ditiditiditi*
As always, Nibi continues to find me highly amusing.Though, before I can do so, another person yells at her.
“Nibi! That wasn’t funny!”
Quite surprisingly, when Talia shouts, Nibi actually ceases her ughter and a look of genuine confusion appears on her face.
“Miep?”
I wonder…It sometimes works with children.
“You scared her, Nibi. How is she supposed to find your prank funny when she’s frightened? She thought you were trying to hurt me. And now you’ve made her sad, see?”
*Sob*Gratefully, Sis pys along with my words. If I didn’t know any better, I’d say she was about to cry.
“No. Miep? Miep!”
Immediately, Nibi flies over to her and tries her best to give Talia a hug.
“Miep! Ta!”
Which, of course, instantly cheers her up.Especially after hearing her name.
“Aww, thank you, Nibi.”
“You need to be careful using your magic around others. Even if you don’t intend to hurt someone, you may still scare people, and that’s not a good thing. Especially, when you accidently frighten someone you care about.”
“Miep.”
Nibi earnestly nods in acknowledgement.
I’m still not entirely certain, but it seems she may truly like Talia, yet naturally, is as ignorant as any other child regarding how to behave. No, even more so, since she’s not human. Is it possible to teach a fairy how to act properly around people? Moreover, since Nibi has magic, will it be safe for my sister to be around her until she learns?Considering my situation, I very much wish there was a way to answer those questions.Preferably, before someone gets hurt.Well, besides what already happened to me.
Speaking of which, what did happen with the ice just a minute ago? After seeing, and feeling, it melt the second time, I’m starting to doubt that Nibi was responsible. She appeared quite determined to strike me with it, and even though the second icicle was smaller, it did touch me, albeit lightly.Yet, I didn’t feel the energy flow back to Nibi. The ice felt as if it merely colpsed into water upon contacting me.In a way, the magic inside of it seemed to simply vanish. However, I had no direct role in it, being too focused on attempting to evade it to try anything else.
Hmm, I suppose with her learning so rapidly, I could try simply asking Nibi.If I can distract her from fussing over Talia.
“Nibi?”
“Miep!”
Yeah, sure, I shouldn’t have worried. Her attention immediately comes back to me.
“The icicle that you chased me with, did you turn it to water?”
“No.”
“And the one from earlier? That wasn’t your doing either, was it?”
“No.”
Talia speaks up at that.
“Uhm, Sis. If it wasn’t you, and it wasn’t her, then who did it?”
Good question.Nibi formed what appeared to be a deadly spear made of ice, unched it at me, and it turned to harmless water.
“So why did it melt?”
“Miep? Ak’ri.”
And now we’re right back to where we began.
After pondering what occurred earlier, I don’t believe she was seriously trying to hurt me.As fond of me as she seems to be, she’d never do such a thing.Yet, I thought she was trying a dangerous prank, but it seems she truly considered it harmless. So much so that instead of stopping the icicle she unched at Garen, it would seem she let it fly into me.Possibly even guided it to me.However, that begs the question of how did she know what would happen? She’s young and can’t communicate very well.Did she possibly observe others throwing ice or snow at each other without it harming them?Wait…Not harming fairies?
*Sigh*My hand goes to my forehead.Argh, I feel like such an idiot!Indeed, I’ve already been mocked for this very thing once before, when I asked if I hurt any fairies after “that” night.Fairies are immune to magic, Akari!Yeah, sure, I’d prefer to forget everything surrounding that moonlight event, but this is a rather important bit of information!
Knowing this, it’s indeed quite likely that fairies hurl magic between themselves. In fact, they probably py with one another that way.Py?
“Nibi, you don’t intend to chase Talia using your magic, do you?”
“Miep, no.”
“You really think she would do that, Sis?”
“Well, no. You’re not a fairy. But I had to be sure Nibi understood.”
“Understood what? We already scolded her for using magic on you. I don’t believe she would then turn and use it on me simply because I’m not a fairy.”
“That’s not what I meant. It’s just that I may have forgotten a slightly useful tidbit about fairies.”
“Which is?”
“Uhm... I don’t believe fairies can be harmed by magic.”
She gives me an incredulous look.
“And you didn’t think that was important to tell me?”
“Yeah, sure, I forgot, okay? I’ve never been attacked by magic since waking up like this, and I had no idea what form such protection would take. It took some thought for me to connect the melting ice to what I was told. But my point is, if Nibi thought you were the same as fairies, she may try pying with you using her magic.”
At that, her gaze becomes accusing.
“So, earlier, you worried me and let me scold her over harmless pying!?”
Suddenly, she reminds me very much of Mum.
“Uh…Erm…”
“Nibi. If it truly is harmless, why don’t you go back to pying with Aki. Just be careful to keep it away from me, please.”
She must really be angry, as she almost never calls me by that awful nickname.
“Miep. Miep!”
Oh no!
“Talia! Don’t tell her to, aaah! Nibi! Aaaah!”
Now having Talia’s encouragement, Nibi gathers a row of watery spears above her, forms them into icicles, and unches shard after shard of ice in rapid succession.Which, of course, return to water upon touching me or just prior to contact. With the rate she’s sending them, I’m soon drenched once more. For a few moments, I try to evade her projectiles, but they all seem to track my movements perfectly. So I take a new approach.
I may ck her experience with magic, and have no idea how she’s creating the ice so quickly, but I can still try to fight back.Concentrating through the distracting ice shower, I manage to form an orb of water magic. Then after willing it to form a rge icicle that will fly towards her, I release it.The blue essence does exactly as I desired, transforming from an orb of light into a length of water, and finally to a spear of ice, which promptly speeds towards Nibi.Yet, with a fp of her wings, she moves to the side and the ice whizzes by her.
Aaah! It’s going to hit my wall!Luckily, before it strikes, with a wave of Nibi’s hand, it returns towards her.Or unluckily, as it passes by Nibi once more and flies straight at me!With its rger size and speed, this spear propels me backwards when it connects, as the water washes me away, yet it does no more real harm than the rest.Although being struck by my own magic is a little embarrassing.
“Hahaha” *ditiditiditi*
And now both of them are ughing. At least Nibi has stopped pelting me.*Knock*Knock*Before anything else can occur, there’s a knock at my bedroom door, and Talia quickly moves to open it.
“Oh, hello Garen. Did we wake you?”
He peers into the room with bleary eyes, still looking exhausted and haggard, as I quickly absorb the water off of my person and dress.
“So, not a dream then?”
I fly over to Talia and nd on her shoulder before speaking.
“Now you know how I feel. Simply imagine waking up with a pair of these on your back.”
“How did that happen, exactly?”
Talia cuts in.
“Sis, why don’t you start your story from the beginning while at the table? And Nibi, could you dry the room while I go grab some fruit from my garden? If you wouldn’t mind letting me through, Garen?”
Garen steps aside so Talia can move past him and exit the house.Meanwhile, Nibi soars around the room and quickly absorbs the water before the three of us then move towards the table.
“Two of them in miniature and three girls still managed to make that kind of racket.”
“What was that Garen?”
“Erm, what happened to the table?”
Yeah, sure. The blue flowers growing from it are somewhat noticeable.
“Uh, well, I’m still new to having magic, and one time I accidently caused this to happen. I still don’t actually know how I did it, but Mum thinks it looks nice, so it would seem that it worked out.”
“So, you can use magic now? Like a mage?”
“I’ll get to that, but first. Nibi, this is Garen, a friend of mine, so I’d appreciate it if you were nice to him as well.”
“Miep.”
“Uh, hello, Nibi.”
She doesn’t exactly look thrilled to see him, but I suppose as long as she doesn’t try harming him, it’s a start.
“She’s still learning to speak, but is working out words very quickly. Oh, and that reminds me. I didn’t want to bring it up earlier as it wasn’t the time for it, but when you were chasing after Nibi and I, and Talia tried to keep you out, why did you stop? Sis told me what she said, but I’m surprised you even payed her any attention.”
“It, it just seemed simir to something I heard in town. Nothing important.”
He’s obviously reluctant to tell me.Just what kind of rumors are they spreading about me now?
“Garen. Spill it.”
At which, of course, he smirks at me.Ugh.Yeah, sure, my voice isn’t exactly capable of a menacing tone anymore. At least he still responds.
“Okay, fine, but remember that you asked to hear it. When I passed through town on the way here from the forest, I overheard some of Sinora’s group speaking about you. That apparently you were haunting her now, yet there was also a second ghost alongside you. Since no one else has gone unaccounted for recently, they were specuting on who it might be. One of them suggested that as you had been seeing Thomas for as long as you had, maybe there actually had been two people who went missing in the forest that day, but it had been too soon for you to have told anyone yet. And when Talia said what she did, well…”
What does being with Thomas have to do with there being two ghosts? And too soon to tell..?Oh!
“That is absolutely not true, Garen, just, no! Who was it who even said that!? Nothing ever happened between me and that bastard, and now nothing ever will! He’s a rge part of why I ended up in the forest to begin with. Him and Sin-”
I’m cut off by the door flying open, and Talia running inside.
“Sis! What did you do to my garden!?”
